Change question type/category without deleting element

I want to be able to change the type of a question element (e.g., from Multiple Choice/Checkbox to Single Choice/Radio) without having to delete the element and re-enter all the options and scores. This is important because it saves a lot of time when a mistake is made during the initial setup of a quiz or form.
